Ford Motor Company PD - Engineer in Des Moines, Iowa

The Ford Performance Group creates halo high performing vehicles based on standard production products in the Ford Motor Company portfolio. Based on a unique set of DNA requirements, this team elevates the performance of those vehicles to create highly desirable products for the decerning customers.

The Advanced Systems Engineering Group responds to product planning concepts to establish the initial design and package of these unique vehicles, outlines the required suspension and chassis content, confirms the overall package and resolves any engineering challenges prior to PS.

The selected candidate will need to work effectively with the various groups within Ford Performance to determine the requirements, develop the initial packages, manage design proposals and select the appropriate hardware to achieve the product objectives.

Coordinate design efforts between cross-functional activities (D&R, Vehicle Engineering, Chassis, VO, Suppliers) to ensure architectural compatibility between mechanical package, occupants and intended design requirements.

Lead development of solutions and alternative to meet the mechanical package and related targets.

Support design verification testing and documentation to allow engineering sign-off of prototype and production vehicles at key engineering gateways.

Develop and maintain suspension and tire motion models, system selection documents and program Specific data in support of the vehicle design.

Masters in mechanical or automotive engineering or related field of study

6+ years’ experience in automotive product development, mechanical or occupant packaging engineering.

In-depth knowledge of Body/Chassis/Powertrain/Electrical systems (geometry and function).

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables like overall vehicle targets, size, appearance, and manufacturing feasibility.

Broad exposure to architecture development of various vehicle types (Body-On-Frame Truck / SUV, Unibody High Performance Cars)

Proficiency in design and product life cycle management tools CATIA, Teamcenter, VisMockup, ENOVIA and KBE Tools.

Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, and an ability to manage multiple projects.

Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

This position is a salary grade 7.
